In doing so, they create a beautiful dance together of give and take in both their fighting styles and in their relationship. The spice didn't come into play until towards the end but if fit the story very well. This is a story of love and loss, an underdog.

Oraya is a powerful character with a fiery personality and a great deal of combat skill. Her flaws are in her heart and her naivety, which I thought made her a compelling character who I wanted to root for. Raihn is a swoon-worthy love interest with a complicated backstory, but one who's banter and relationship with Oraya make for an engaging read.

Oraya forms an alliance with Raihn, the morally grey and mysterious MMC. Oraya is probably one of my favorite FMCs ever. She's selfless, strong, and kind in all the right ways. She isn't hotheaded and rash and actually knows her limitations. Her chemistry with Raihn was everything. Their relationship was very sweet at times.

_Rylime • 6 mo. ago i'm slightly confused what your issue with the gap is, is it that Raihn was 32 before he changed so he had 32 years of human life experience and got to the stage of marriage and babies in that time whereas Oraya is nowhere near that stage?

The most interesting relationship in The Serpent and the Wings of Night, strangely, isn't between protagonists Oraya and Raihn, although they do have genuine chemistry. It's between Oraya and her father, Vincent. The relationship that Broadbent has written is complex, and it changes as Oraya evolves and views it through more mature eyes.

Oraya and Raihn slowly but surely become more than allies, they became close in an unexpected way, and believe it or not felt that "unspoken thing" between them or at least that was my impression while reading. Even before things got romantic and the sexual tension started to happen later on, I was already loving how Oraya and Raihn were.
